The climate cult are at it once again. Destroying our society, health and wellbeing whilst claiming to do the opposite. A fresh scandal has come to light, one that lays bare the true cost of the climate cult’s crusade. In their unyielding determination to impose net zero upon this nation, they have delivered not salvation, but a quiet betrayal of British workers, British standards and British common sense.

Asbestos, the lethal material we banned outright in 1999 to shield our people from a slow and agonising death, has been discovered in the emergency brake components of lifts and hoists inside at least one thousand wind turbines across Britain. These parts arrived via opaque supply chains stretching to China, installed in machines that were sold to us as the clean, safe future of our energy supply.

 

How did a substance prohibited in this country for more than a quarter of a century find its way into critical infrastructure that the public is told will power our homes and industries for decades to come? The answer lies in the ideological haste of those who have subordinated every practical consideration, safety, jobs, sovereignty, to the pursuit of symbolic emissions targets.

The lowering of CO2 emissions is being weaponised and has far reaching consequences.

Contracts were sent abroad to chase the lowest price. Skilled British work and apprenticeships were exported. In return we received components laced with a banned carcinogen, and now we must pay once more to test, contain and replace them. If only we had common sense in politics and they would all be removed forever!

The cost will be substantial. Air sampling, specialist consultants and phased replacement programmes are already under way and may stretch well into next year. One major Scottish operator alone has identified the material in more than two hundred of its turbines. Unions representing the men and women who must climb these structures are rightly furious. They have written to ministers and the Health and Safety Executive demanding full transparency on risks, costs and accountability. As one senior GMB figure observed, it “beggars belief” that we should export work only to import danger and then pay again to remove it.

Industry voices insist the asbestos is sealed within housings, that no airborne fibres have been detected and that the risk to workers is low. Why should any British worker be asked to accept even a theoretical exposure so that the climate cult can boast of another megawatt of intermittent power?

This episode is not an unfortunate accident. It is the inevitable fruit of a policy that treats reliable domestic industry as optional and foreign supply chains as virtuous so long as the label “renewable” can be attached. While ordinary families are lectured on curbing traditional diets, accepting higher bills and forgoing the comforts of secure, affordable energy, the very projects promoted as our moral duty bring real toxins into our midst and deepen our dependence on suppliers beyond our control.

The climate cult promised that their revolution would protect the planet and improve our lives. Instead it has produced higher costs, lost jobs, compromised safety and a fresh reminder that virtue without vigilance is simply another form of recklessness. Modest shifts in our climate have occurred throughout history and have often brought benefits to agriculture and human flourishing. Cold is the killer, not heat! Yet the response has been to dismantle the very strengths, industrial capacity, energy security, respect for proven standards, that allowed this nation to prosper.

Enough. The British people did not consent to have their landscape industrialised, their workers endangered and their manufacturing hollowed out in pursuit of targets that deliver neither genuine environmental gain nor tangible national advantage. We did not vote to become dependent on components from jurisdictions with scant regard for the safeguards we once took for granted.

It is time for anger to become resolve. Demand a full, independent inquiry into every aspect of the renewable infrastructure already installed and planned. Insist that no further expansion proceeds until British manufacturing, British safety standards and British oversight are guaranteed. Challenge every subsidy and every target that places ideology above the security and prosperity of these islands.
