Massive Farmers Protest round 2 – 11th december – Here’s What You Need To Know
Tractor Rally looking to take over London once again!
The farmers are fighting back and need your help! The protesters are set to hit London’s streets as well as the centres of Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh, the founder of Save British Farming, Liz Webster, confirmed while talking to Farmers Guide last week.
Farmers are set to gather at Whitehall, facing towards Parliament Square, between 10 am and midday. Tractors will be able to enter the area via Trafalgar Square. With speeches starting at noon. Speakers include North Wales hill farmer Gareth Wyn Jones, Berkshire farmer Colin Rayner, and NI Farmers for Action coordinator William Taylor.
Protesters are demanding the government abandon plans for a UK-US free trade deal, secure an EU veterinary agreement to ease trade barriers, and halt new farm inheritance taxes, the fast-track withdrawal of Basic Payments, and carbon taxes on fertiliser.
Some of these demands are new to many as we assumed the breaking point news of the proposed inheritance tax was what all this fury and frustration was about and that was the sole agenda. However there are more demands being made here that need further investigating. For example, what is not to be gained from the UK-US free trade deal? It would make sense to encourage business between our two nations. Of course, any deal has to be mutually beneficial and the UK should in no way accept a lower standard of food imports. The USA with its current mass chemical usage isn’t renowned for high quality food, especially compared to European standards. Perhaps with the incoming Trump administration with RFK at the helm, this will all change and the USA food supply will be cleared up.
Scrapping carbon taxes on fertiliser, or in fact anything and then never creating any new ones is a good move. We do not need Carbon taxes. This one Element is being demonised like no other and it can sound trivial to some in conversation. Ah yeah, whatever sure CO2 I know there is some things happening about it. When in reality our entire society is being restructured and centered around the holy grail of less CO2. Less CO2 by any means possible! Madness. CO2 is the gas of life and is not the cause of global warming. If global warming is even still happening? More CO2 means more food, amongst many other positive things.
Matt Cullen of Fairness for Farmers said: “You’ll be greeted by marshals to park you in various lanes. Once you parked, at midday there will be speeches done by various people.
“After that we will be leaving Whitehall at 12.45 pm. And you’ve heard it right, we are taking these tractors on a protest around London.”
The rally will finish at Parliament Square.
Tractors only on this one!
The organisers said that this is a tractor-only protest; therefore, 4×4 or pickup trucks should not take part in the rally.
Mr Cullen added: “Due to the volume of tractors we’ve got coming, we need all the space available for tractors. Vintage and classic tractors can come along, but they need to be roadworthy and road legal.”
The future of British Farming
Founder of campaign group Save British Farming, Liz Webster, said: “Tony Blair’s former advisor, John McTernan, blurted out recently that the Labour Party intends to do to farming what Thatcher did the mines.
“This anti-farming Stalinist offensive from the Labour government presents a real danger to us all, we rely on food to survive. Losing the ability to feed ourselves means a total loss of control, we learnt hard lessons in the last two world wars about the fact that food security is national security.
“Keir Starmer must listen to farmers and step back from the brink and do what is right and best for our great country.”
Jeff Gibson, founder of Kent Fairness For Farmers, added: “We strive as farmers in this country to provide the public with the safest food and highest animal welfare in the world and that comes with a cost.
“The questions I ask you today are what future does farming have? Can we really expect the next generation to start their farming careers paying 10 years of tax burden because we died?”
The people of the UK are making it very clear they fully support the farmers as was seen by the huge turnout at the last one. This fight isn’t just about the inheritance tax, that’s just the catalyst igniting the spark of frustration that has been building from decades of anti farming and frankly anti British policies coming from central government. In the name of net zero the country is being crucified, however it seems like we are waking up quickly and becoming more connected and organised everyday.
Also we can do our part every day by supporting local farmers and businesses. Just take this map for example that was created to show Bovear free produce farms in the UK. We have an impact by voting with our money. And by using cash as much as possible.
