The Younger Dryas Problem For Climate Alarmism, Dispelling The Never Seen Before Warming Myth
As I am walking the 1000 mile walk I am debating many a climate cultists and a common talking point continually coming up is how we’ve never seen before this rate of change warming and how somehow nature is fragile as fuck and will somehow be imploding in itself due to a mild warming of 1-2 degrees in a couple centuries.
Well folks, as always, propaganda sells well initially but as it’s foundation is built on lies, the truth can come in and destroy it all. This is very easily done with nearly everything the left and mad greenies jibber on about. In fact, it is so predictable what will be said in a debate that I created a course with 20 of the common talking points and what exactly to say to counter them in the Climate Con Conversation Mastery Course. The great thing about debating what you know is you are often pushed to the edge of what you know and then have to expand your knowledge base to counter what comes up in a debate.
Now lets together dismantle this climate alarmism myth.
No, This Is Not The Fastest We've Warmed In Recent History
The North Atlantic’s recovery from the Younger Dryas shows that a far larger, far faster regional warming than anything measured since 1850 was compatible with ecological recovery and human persistence. Recent global warming is smaller, slower, and occurring from a milder baseline. If that earlier jump was not apocalyptic, treating 1.3–1.4 °C of modern warming as a civilizational emergency is an overfit to models and rhetoric rather than to Earth’s own recent history. Infact, as cold is the bigger killer by a factor of 9 globally, mild warming should be welcomed!
The end of the Younger Dryas is the cleanest available analog for “abrupt warming and then what happened.” In Greenland and the surrounding North Atlantic, temperatures rose on the order of 8–10 °C in a few decades. Sea ice collapsed, storm tracks shifted, and biomes reorganized. That is several times the global rise of the industrial era and much faster locally than the modern global-mean rate. It was not a modest wiggle. It was a hard reset of a major climate node. What followed was not collapse of the biosphere. Forests advanced. Ice sheets continued to lose mass, but life occupied the newly available land. Late Pleistocene and early Holocene human groups in Europe and North America lived through the transition. They did not require a UN conference to do it. The system absorbed a circulation-driven heat pulse that would, on paper, look more alarming than the smooth rise of the last 150 years.
That matters for two reasons.
First, magnitude and rate. Mainstream dogma often treats the modern rate as uniquely dangerous because it is “faster than anything in the Holocene stack.” That stack is a global average with coarse resolution. It is the wrong comparison class. The relevant comparison for tolerance is: what warming have real ecosystems and humans already survived in a region that actually matters for weather, ice, and ocean heat transport? The North Atlantic has already done a bigger, faster version and remained a functioning climate province.
Second, starting point. The YD termination began from a harsh glacial-mode North Atlantic. The modern rise begins from a relatively stable, ice-reduced Holocene. If a colder, more ice-loaded system could take an 8–10 °C regional hit and then support the Holocene expansion of forests, megafauna ranges, and human settlement, a 1.4 °C global rise from a warmer, more open baseline is not self-evidently past a breaking point. Warmth after ice ages is the condition under which agriculture, dense settlement, and the Holocene “sweet spot” appeared, not the condition that ended them.
The usual objections do not kill the hypothesis; they qualify it.
- “It was only regional.”
Yes. And the region that flipped is the same one that still dominates a large share of Northern Hemisphere climate variability. A system that can swallow a North Atlantic step-change of that size is not obviously fragile at 1.4 °C globally.
- “The cause is different.” Uniformity is often cited as worse. It can also be read as less chaotic: fewer sudden sea-ice and storm-track discontinuities of the YD type.
- “Civilization is adapted to the late Holocene.”
True, and that is the strongest counter. Ports, farms, and cities are tuned to a narrow band. That is an infrastructure and land-use problem, not proof that the physical climate system itself cannot host a warmer state. Adaptation after the YD was migration, new hunting grounds, and later farming. Adaptation now is engineering, trade, and crop switching, tools that did not exist then.
The recent small warming is inside the envelope of changes the North Atlantic climate and the biosphere have already processed without ending habitability. The catastrophe narrative requires that a smaller, slower, more globally even warming be more lethal than a larger, faster, circulation-driven pulse that actually occurred. That is a strong claim. The paleoclimate record does not force you to accept it.
If the North Atlantic could take 8–10 °C in decades and then host the Holocene, the idea that 1.4 °C so far has already “destroyed” the climate system is dogma running ahead of the evidence.
So as usual with the scare stories surrounding climate alarmism, it’s all based on bullshit, over exaggerated and easily destroyed with facts. Good news, there is no climate crisis!
And as this latest sea level rise meme shows in Towan Island, Newquay, sea level rise is nothing to worry about!
We’ve already seen nearly all of the sea level rise we’re going to see, so embrace mild warming friends, it would be overwhelmingly good for the people and the planet!
